The Physics of Fun... (aka 'BYOD : Building your own drone')

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
As children, you are able to explore and imagine limitless possibilities. Allow me to return you to your childhood, showing you the power of learning through fun.

The process of building a quadcopter and exploring the mechanical, electrical and mathematical aspects will inspire creativity... and we have proof of this through our work with local school children and the STEM program.

This workshop will be an encore of my 'The Physics of Fun... how I got 31 6th graders to learn physics while having fun.'

During the workshop, we will discuss the basics of how a multi-rotor works… the steps to build a multi-rotor… including details on flight controllers, frame selection, motors and props (including determining what type of multi-rotor will suite your purpose), speed controllers and batteries. There are a lot of variables… all of these details will be broken down, making the process of building your first copter a ‘flight in the park’. At the end… a flying multi-rotor copter will be air-worthy and demonstrated.

Pillar has provided 25 complete multi-rotor kits for the workshop.

*** Please plan to bring the following to the workshop
  • your laptop
  • micro usb (the same one that will charge most android phones).  This is not required, but it will really help out if we have more than just mine.
