Feedback form is now closed.
Hey kids! Are you tired of all the old katas? Perhaps you see Roman numerals in your sleep or you've fizzed your last buzz. Maybe your vending machine is empty. Well, there's no need to worry as we've got a shiny new kata straight from the kata factory. It's something you haven't done before. It even has that new kata smell! It's the Tetris Kata™.

The Tetris Kata™ was designed by an eccentric engineer by the name of Jim Kirkbride. Jim, known for his strange behavior and strict coding standards, has special made this kata just for you. He worked many long and hard hours putting this kata together so that all you boys and girls could write some fresh code!

Concerned about writing fresh new code? No worries. Jim and Guy will be there the whole time to help guide you if you get stuck. And, since you'll be programming with a buddy, you can always ask them for help too.

You can do the Tetris Kata™ in any language you like so come on over and check out the hottest new kata. The Tetris Kata™. You'll be glad you did!

-----

In this session we'll kick the tires on a new kata so we can see how it works in a workshop and how it might work as a kata for vetting new hires. We'll spend most of the workshop coding and then have a retro to discuss how pairing partners approached the problem, problems they ran into and all that other retro goodness we love.

If you'd like to get a jump on the kata, it can be found on GitHub at https://gist.github.com/jameskbride/f7c6cbf133294518f1995744aa90a8e4.

Special thanks to Jeremy Winters for helping out on the abstract and story descriptions.

Where others would choose arts and crafts, he has chosen to channel this urge into creating beautiful software. Guy was introduced to computers before he learned algebra and before Tron. He was immediately and irrevocably sucked into their alluring beauty. In fact, the draw of programming was so strong and one might call his career more of a... Read More →
